Editorial Reviews:

Universal Pictures Wanted (Blu-ray) Loosely based on the comic book miniseries of the same by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones, WANTED, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, follows anxiety-prone office drone Wesley Gibson (JamesMcAvoy) as he is inducted into the Fraternity, a clan of powerful killers that counted his father as a member. Pursued by rogue agent Cross (Thomas Kretschmann), Wesley is trained by the sleek, sexy Fox (Angelina Jolie) and the charismatic Sloan (Morgan Freeman), among others, to be just as proficient and deadly as his father. Once Wesley becomes a master assassin, he must confront Cross, and contend with the stunning ramifications of that encounter.

Summary: Amazing Finish!
Comment: After about 30 minutes of this movie, I really thought I had made a mistake buying it. I did not like how the plot was unfolding, and the acting seemed subpar. However, this flick made a huge comeback at around the 30 minute mark. Angelina Jolie gives one of her best performances, and the main character suddenly begins to become an awesome actor. The plot suddenly gets interesting, and you will want to watch it again as soon as the movie finishes. I recommend this movie to anyone looking for a fun couple of hours. Don't let the slow start bother you. The second time you watch it, you will understand why it starts how it does.

Enjoy!

Summary: Nah...
Comment: Having seen Timur's Russian movies, I am glad to see him get some publicity in the West. He has been able to incorporate some awesome visual effects into some quite inventive action movies. However, with "Wanted:" some of the effects in this movie are the same effects I've seen in his other movies, the plot is lame and brainless and completely predictable, the performances are solid but characters are completely one-dimensional, and by the time the film was finished, I felt ripped-off. Ah well, just don't expect much and you may be entertained for at least 90 minutes...

Summary: Plot will keep you in the passenger seat
Comment: I'm not into cars or carnage, but this movie had me glued to my seat. I thought a good time for a bathroom break would be during the breaks of the races, but that is where a lot of the plot unfolds. The best movie I've seen in forever! We were so excited that my husband, two boys and I all forgot to get ice cream after!!

Summary: disappointing
Comment: I really wanted to like this movie because I love James McAvoy and haven't disappointed with his recent movies. However, I just couldn't do it. The plot was reminiscent of Fight Club and The Matrix. It was like Fight Club because the main character (Wesley) is working at a hum-drum job he hates and is just going through the motions, much like Ed Norton's character in Fight Club. Then this organization wants Wesley to join them and he's "set free", sort of like Brad Pitt's character did for Ed Norton in Fight Club. There were many scenes that defied the laws of physics to a ridiculous degree and there was no "but it's in the Matrix" explanation for how these characters could even do these things. I'm all for a good action movie, but give me something somewhat believable. The end left me greatly disappointed. The part where Wesley gets his revenge is great, but then at the very end there's just this big death fest and some information that leaves your eyebrows doing an Irish jig. I really wanted to like this, but I was disappointed and would not want to own it.

Summary: Not only an action flick...
Comment: Wanted (Single-Disc Widescreen Edition)
People seem to rate this as though it's only an action flick when it is more an adult fantasy. It's the story of an hopelessly bored office nerd with greater potential than he can imagine. In effect, his boredom stems out of his potential. Although the action and acting are great the story line and moral of the story are what stood out to me.
Basically, Wesley (James McAvoy) is snatched out of what seems to be an endlessly meaningless existance, conditioned by having the heck beat out of him until he learns to fight back. After being mentored by Fox (Angeline Jolie) and deceived into killing his own father, Weslay takes control of his life. After discovering his true identity by studying his father as a supposed enemy, he followed in his father's footsteps by completing his plan to wipe out the corrupt cell of the Fraternity (Assisins of Fate) that trained him, with the help of his mentor, Fox, who was true to the code but deceived as well.
We've watched the movie multiple times and wonder: what's not to like?
